Why am I blogging about the Miami HEAT’s 3rd Championship parade four days later? Well…it’s taken me that long to recover! What a completely exhausting day for all involved, but boy was it worth it.
Televising the Miami HEAT Championship Celebration was no easy task. It took a full 10-hour technical set day to get the three mobile units up and running for Sun Sports. Plus a 3:00am call time for the 60+ crew members the day of the parade to ensure all 37 cameras were cabled, built, and running to cover the parade route. Not to mention all the audio gear and microphones needed for both the inside and outside sets. It was a true team effort between the Miami HEAT and Sun Sports to bring the viewers the best possible coverage of this historic event.
On the “on-camera” side, it was all hands on deck to fill what ended up being a 5 hour show. Frank Forte and Jorge Sedano joined in to help the home HEAT Live crew of Jason Jackson, Eric Reid, Tony Fiorentino, John Crotty, Johanna Gomez and myself. The broadcast started at 10am, but with the weather delay and inside celebration, we didn’t get off the air until nearly 3:00pm.

One of the best features of the parade coverage were the wireless cameras on Lebron James, Chris Bosh, and Dwyane Wade’s double decker buses. This allowed Eric and Tony to talk to Lebron and Dwyane live during the parade. We also pre-produced several features to air during the fill time prior to the parade to tell some of the best stories of the season.
An excellent telecast once again by Executive Producer of the HEAT Ted Ballard and Producer AJ Speaks. I was thrilled to be a part of such an exciting day…but Tuesday morning, my bones were tired! I don’t know how those talented photographers do it…carrying around those heavy cameras all day.

If you missed the telecast, the fine folks at Sun Sports edited it down to a two-hour show that airs again on these dates:
Parade Air Dates on Sun Sports

Tuesday, July 2 12:00pm
Friday, July 5 1:30pm

And here are some of my favorite photos I took on parade day. Enjoy! Is it opening night yet?
