Career Day for Preschool–Miami HEAT from Kristen Hewitt on Vimeo.
My daughter’s preschool asked me to speak to four classes today about what I do for the Miami HEAT. It seemed only fitting that I produce and edit a video to show the behind the scenes of some of the more interesting aspects of broadcasting. Thanks to the HEAT and Sun Sports for allowing me to shoot in the locker room, on the court before doors open, in the television mobile unit…and of course a big shout out to Jason Jackson and the lovable Burnie for their cameos.
Me: Lila, what was your favorite part of the video?
Lila: Burnie tooting!
Along with showing this video, I did a quick speech about sports in general, and different jobs in the sports world. Only three 4-year-olds out of 81 kids knew what a hockey puck was. And not one child could tell me the name of another NBA team other than the Miami HEAT.
Me: Can anyone tell me the name of a team the Miami HEAT plays against?
Kid: The blue guys!
Me: No, it has to be a city name.
Kid: The Miami Dolphins?
And Physical Education is being cut in public schools? Good heavens. We need to work on this parents…
If you watch this with your kids…you may want to fast forward to the Burnie bit at the end. I tried to hold their interest, but 5 minutes may have been too long for this age group. Enjoy!
That was a great video !!!!!! It should be shown to some of the older grades….
What a great video – so cool that you were able to show all the kids something that very few people actually get to see!
Thanks for watching! I shot it on a day I worked, so it worked out.
